The Academy maintains a library, which is gradually growing with the acquisition of new books apart from preservation of rare books and manuscripts. It is named after KR Sundaram Iyer, for long a member of the Executive Committee and who was a President of the Music Academy. Students and research scholars not only from Chennai but also neighbouring states and abroad are using the library. In the past, the library has benefited immensely from donors such as Shri S Viswanathan, Shri R Kalidas and the family of Sangita Kalanidhi Embar S Vijayaraghavachariar.
The library infrastructure underwent a complete transformation in 2015, thanks to the donations made by Smt Hemalatha Ramamani. The modernization of the library is an ongoing programme with cataloguing and digitization activities being in progress. This is thanks to donations received earlier from Sivasailam Charities.
